Creative Learning and Student's Perspectives (CLASP)
The European Commission co-financed this qualitative research project, co-ordinated by The Open University worth a total of €549,000. It was a nine month project that took place over two years from December 2002 until October 2004. The project is directed by Bob Jeffrey. The research sites were educational teaching and learning contexts in each of ten partner countries – Austria (Innsbruck), Belgium (Kortrijk), Denmark (Odense), England, (Milton Keynes), Ireland, (Dublin) Poland, (Lodz), Portugal, (Lisbon), Scotland, (Strathclyde-Glasgow) Spain (Cadiz) and Sweden (Gothenburg).
This was an innovative project, flowing from the work of Professor Peter Woods over the last 12 years, Bob Jeffrey in the Faculty of Education and Language Studies at The Open University, Milton Keynes, England and Dr, Geoff Troman, Roehampton University who acted as methodology consultant to the project. The focus was on how students acted creatively to enhance their own learning experiences, what circumstances encouraged creative learning and what policy, organisational and administrative processes constrained it. Student voices and perspectives make up a major part of the data set. Regular meetings between the EC partners took place, an email network was established for the project and a common qualitative software programme was also used to maintain cohesiveness. An Interim Report published in January 2004 attempted to draw some comparisons and similarities across the projects. A first draft of the final report which only includes some of the partner’s final reports was presented to the European Conference for Educational Research in Crete in September 2004. A draft of the Final report will be available in February 2005 and it will be published in full in the summer of 2005.
